Reedride op natuurijs in de Surhuzumermieden!

Zodra het begint te vriezen, gaan de reedrydliefhebbers op zoek naar natuurijs. Iedere dag was het weer spannend, maar toen het bleef vriezen en de temperaturen in februari daalden, groeide de hoop. Dinsdag 18 februari: 'it gong oan' in de Surhuzumermieden. Op een ondergelopen weiland deden verschillende mensen hun redens aan. Onder hen waren twee mannen uit Harkema; Alwin de Jong ging samen met zijn pake Hans Kootstra het ijs op.

Zo vertelt Alwin enhousiast: “Us pake stjoerde my in appke: ‘Wy geane te riden jong!’ Doe binne wy hjirhinne gien. Earst mar sjen oft der genôch wetter lei en oft it kinne soe. Doe’t we it besochten kreake it enoarm en tocht ik: dit wurdt neat. Uteinlik binne we op in sleatsje gien en dêr lei prachtig iis, hartstikke dik. Geweldich, ik hie it noait ferwachte!”, vertelt Alwin enthousiast.

Ook Hans Kootstra genoot volop van het moment. “It besjen fan de natuer, dat is prachtig”, vertelt de pake van Alwin terwijl hij een blik werpt op het uitzicht. “Alles is wyt, it iis glimt en it kreaket lekker. Ik fyn it moai wurk en hoopje dat we dit noch hiel wat jierren folhâlde kinne.”

Alwin had eigenlijk andere plannen die dag, maar het reedride kon hij niet laten schieten: “Hjir wachtsje ik al hiel lang op. Earst in hiel soad snie en ik tocht: aanst kinne we nije wike wol ride. En dan no dit: de kers op’e taart!”
